Age of opportunity tripp5/28/2023 ![]() ![]() “There’s a war out there it’s being fought for the turf of your heart and control of your soul,” Tripp says. The truth of the matter is that my job is far from over. After more than a decade of parenting, I feel that I deserve a little bit of a break. It’s amazing how quickly entitlement can seep in. ![]() Reject Notions That I Am Entitled to Rest and Comfort Setting boundaries, however, is different than feeling like I have to control their behavior. It is important to set healthy boundaries for teens, and then enforce consequences. This doesn’t mean I won’t have any boundaries for my teens. My job is not to control my older kids so they always make the same choices I would This is a reminder to me that I need to let go of things that don’t really matter-and stop harping when there are minor annoyances-and trust God more. What happens is that is that they find themselves in an escalating war for power and control with a teenager.” Harsh words, dramatic punishments, shame, and guilt, they try to control the thoughts and behavior of their son or daughter. “What many parents mourn, as their children enter the teen years, is their loss of power. “ wish they could wield some power over their teenagers so that they would do what they were asked to do,” Tripp says. In the meantime, I decided to read Age of Opportunity: A Biblical Guide to Parenting Teens by Paul David Tripp. ![]() How did that happen? I am still trying to figure out how the time went by so fast. I am now officially the mom of a teenager. ![]()

I would say probably it's in the age range of 12-16. Also, this book talks about death and fighting, but some humor is for a younger audience. This book's humor is more for older kids, since jokes about sex and prostitution are common. ![]() Another good part was when Travis learns the truth about what happened. One of the best parts of the book was the "Velveeta on _day" sections because I liked the other views of the story and additional character development. If you want to laugh and cry in one big story, this is for you. Kids will probably like this book for it's funny and is a good story at times. Ramanujan grew up in a small town in Southern India, his intellectual powers undiscovered due in part to a highly rigid educational structure. ![]() ![]() With a passion for rich and evocative detail, Robert Kanigel takes us from the temples and slums of Madras to the courts and chapels of Cambridge University, where the devout Hindu Ramanujan, "the Prince of Intuition," tested his brilliant theories alongside the sophisticated and eccentric Hardy, "the Apostle of Proof." In time, Ramanujan's creative intensity took its toll: he died at the age of thirty-two, but left behind a magical and inspired legacy that is still being plumbed for its secrets today. ![]() Thus began one of the most improbable and productive collaborations ever chronicled. Realizing the letter was the work of a genius, Hardy arranged for Srinivasa Ramanujan to come to England. In 1913, a young unschooled Indian clerk wrote a letter to G H Hardy, begging the preeminent English mathematician's opinion on several ideas he had about numbers. NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING JEREMY IRONS AND DEV PATEL! She lived humbly, concealing her intense prayer life and countless sacrifices. Yet, Saint Thérése of Lisieux was anything but non-descript Thérése will grip your heart from the very beginning, right up to her last breath, as she tells you the story of her life her little way. After her oldest sister was elected prioress, Therese became a permanent novice to allay suspicions that her family was dominating the small community. From the title alone, we garner a peek at this beloved saint’s humility, as if the story could be about any soul very non-descript. After she converted interiorly and began to read Thomas a Kempis' The Imitation of Christ, she joined 2 of her sisters in a discalced Carmelite convent as a nun at just 15 years old. ![]() She was often anxious and depressed in childhood, as she suffered the early death of her mother. Therese of Lisieux, also known as "Therese of the Child Jesus" and "The Little Flower", was the last of nine children born to Louis and Zelie Martin, at France in 1873. ![]() Shoes were for Sunday by Molly Weir5/27/2023 ![]() ETA: having found the second volume of this trilogy, I discover Molly was 12 at the end of this first book. The text is a bit scrappy in parts, and there are no references to outside events to help place it in time, but that's normal when telling a child's story I don't know too many children (especially in that time) who think much about political/social events unless for some reason they affect them directly. It's just, "Yes we were poor, dirt-poor in fact, and we knew it, but we didn't let it own us." There's no "Young people today don't know how good they have it!" or "Poor me, my ambition saved me". She just talks to the reader, telling her story without self-pity or sentimentality. Picked it up on a sleepless night and devoured it entire in a few hours. I read Molly Weir's story of living and working through WW2 and getting her start on the BBC Radio, in a book called What Did You Do in the War, Mummy?: Women in World War II, so I was interested in her biography. ![]() Pride ibi5/27/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() When the wealthy Darcy family moves in across the street, Zuri wants nothing to do with their two teenage sons, even as her older sister, Janae, starts to fall for the charming Ainsley. Moreover, most of Pilger's work benefits from his witnessing these events first hand, while citing provocative sources.
